Altius owns 100% interest in 414 claims (103.5 square kilometers) near
Natashquan River in southern Labrador where outcrop samples reported by
Geological Survey of Canada (2001) returned values of 0.93 g/t palladium 0.19
g/t platinum and 0.25 g/t gold (1.37 g/t combined ). Reconnaissance exploration
carried out by industry during 2003 and 2004 returned higher values of 2.36 g/t
and 2.82 g/t combined palladium, platinum and gold.
During 2008 and 2009, recce prospecting programs at Natasquan focused on follow
up of five significant EM anomalies generated by an AeroTEM II/Magnetic survey
flown by Altius over the property in early 2008. Subsequent rock and soil
sampling of those areas returned the following results:
- 2.68g/t combined Pt, Pd and Au (grab)
- 6.14% Cu and 388ppb Pt
- 1.04g/t combined Pt, Pd, Au and 1.06% Cu over 1.30m (channel)
- 1.04 combined Pt, Pd, Au and 3.92% Cu over 1.00m (channel)
- 2.49g/t combined Pt, Pd and Au and 1.07% Ni (grab)
- several grab samples >7% Cu
- soil samples up to 26,000ppm Cu
Two of the three EM targets have now been investigated and have yielded sulphide
mineralization including sem-massive to massive magmatic sulphides dominated by
pyrrhotite-pyrite-chalcopyrite at a new prospect. Petrographic work has shown
that pentlandite also occurs as a minor component.
The discovery of Ni-Cu-PGE mineralization in a frontier area of Labrador
represents an exciting exploration opportunity.
