Altius and Cornerstone (TSX.v-CGP) recently formed a 50-50 joint venture alliance to explore a large area of the Labrador Trough in western Labrador and southeastern Quebec for copper, gold and uranium.
The property encompasses approximately 1032 km2 of favourable stratigraphy considered highly prospective for hosting several viable exploration targets including sediment-hosted copper (SSC-type) deposits. Prospecting and mapping by Altius in 2007 recognized several significant copper occurrences on the property. These include (i) chalcocite-rich dolomitic quartzites and breccias; (ii) massive chalcopyrite and pyrite within albitized siliciclastics; and (iii) extensive malachite in quartzite.
The alliance partners will each contribute prospective land holdings to the venture and equally fund the exploration program. Cornerstone will be the operator of the 2008 exploration program which will consist of an airborne magnetics and radiometrics survey as well as a two month field program of prospecting and geology.
